Reclaim Closeness with Your Kids in 30 Days

Not long ago, I overheard a parent say, “I spend all day with my kids, but I’m not sure we’re really connecting.”

That struck me because I’ve felt the same.

It’s so easy to slip into logistics mode: meals, lessons, laundry, errands. Before we know it, days pass without slowing down for a shared laugh, a lingering hug, or a conversation that sparks curiosity.

That’s exactly why, several years ago, I started a little experiment each October: 30 Days of Connection.

At first, it was simple—one intentional moment of connection each day. What I didn’t expect was how deeply families would resonate with it. Thousands of downloads later, I know I’m not the only one craving that pause.

Here’s the truth. Connection doesn’t happen by accident. It happens by attention. Tiny moments of presence, practiced consistently, weave the closeness we long for.

How the Challenge Works

The 30 Days of Connection Challenge is an invitation to spend the month of October slowing down and creating intentional moments with your kids.

I’ve created a free calendar full of simple, doable prompts—each designed to spark one of three types of connection:

  • Mind-to-mind: the exchange of ideas through shared stories, questions, or discoveries.
  • Body-to-body: the grounding of presence through touch, play, and physical closeness.
  • Heart-to-heart: the sharing of emotions, encouragement, and vulnerability.

These categories come from my book, The Joy of Slow, and they remind me that meaningful connection is layered, woven through thoughts, actions, and emotions alike.

Whether it’s sharing a story, taking a walk together, or leaving a note of encouragement, these little actions create the texture of togetherness.
